- 1/2 pound firm white onions – sliced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 quart chicken broth
- 1 quart beef broth
- 8 slices French bread

- 1/4 pound red onion , finely diced li >
- 2 cups water li >
- 1 /2 cup honey li >
- 1 /2 cup red wine vinegar li >
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard li >
Optional: Add up to one tablespoon Tabasco sauce for extra spice
Bacon drippings should be heated in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Add onions,
sautéing until they begin caramelizing. Meanwhile,
combine water,
honey,
vinegar,
and optional pepper sauce in another bowl using whisk . Stir corn starch thoroughly into this mix .
