Beef Satay: ​A Flavorful Delight

In many Chinese culinary traditions, beef is sliced into very fine pieces to enhance the dish’s texture and flavor. To make slicing more manageable, place‌ the beef⁤ in the ⁣freezer for about half an hour.

Ingredients for Beef Satay

  • 500 g (1 pound) steak fillet,​ whole
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • A pinch of pepper
  • 2 ​teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon corn starch (cornflour)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons⁣ cooking oil

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 clove garlic,⁢ minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped roughly

  • 2 teaspoons dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • Salt to ⁣taste
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ​ 2 teaspoons⁣ soy ​sauce

    Slicing​ and Marinating:

    ⁣ Cut away any fat or sinew from the meat. Slice it into thin strips approximately 5mm‌ thick (about a quarter-inch). ⁢Lightly pound each⁤ strip to slightly flatten them. Place these slices in a bowl and add soy sauce,⁤ pepper,​ sesame oil, corn starch mixed with water; blend thoroughly. ‌Let it marinate for around twenty minutes.

    Sautéing:

    ​ In a‌ frying pan or ‍skillet ​over medium heat, warm up some ‌oil before adding the ​marinated beef slices. Cook until they are browned⁢ on both sides ⁤while separating each piece as you place​ them in ​the pan; remove once browned.

    Cooking Sauce ​& Final Touches:

    Incorporate diced onion and crushed ‍garlic into your ⁤pan; sauté until onions become translucent. Add satay sauce along with sherry wine,sugar,curry powder,and ‍salt diluted with water.Simmer ​till⁢ bubbling.Return cooked beef back to your frypan.Cook briefly ‍till tender which‍ should take roughly ​one minute.
